Christopher Shay spent the 2007-2008 school year teaching English writing at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. While in Hong Kong, he became enamored of the region's dependable mass transit, outdoor escalators, and efficient government services. About to embark on a year-long stint as a reporter for the Phnom Penh Post—an English-language daily newspaper in Cambodia—he's sure this next year will bring new adventures—ones without convenient public transport this time.
Growing up in Portland, Oregon instilled in Christopher a love for land-use planning, locally produced beers, and photography. As a cultural anthropology major from Columbia University, he learned many skills—how to use the word "ontology" perhaps being the most useful.
Other interests of his include em dashes (but not en dashes), sans-serif fonts other than Helvetica, and avocados. All of this, he is absolutely certain, will come in handy as a reporter at the Phnom Penh Post.
